Lake Macquarie is the largest salt-water lake on the east coast of Australia. That means great sunrise and sunset-across-the-water photos.
The Lake Macquarie area also has beaches and mountains. It is a short drive to the Hunter Valley Vineyards, Port Stephens and Sydney. People who live here call it God’s Country.
Caves Beach is unique. You can explore the caves at low tide, swim in clean water, investigate rock pools, sit in the shade of caves and enjoy the sand and surf. The carpark is accessible but of course once you’re on the sand…
The lookout has great views of the ocean, beach and cliffs. (See whales if you’re lucky.)
Magnificent photographic opportunities in all day trips.
Fresh air, dirt roads, diverse green foliage, remnant rainforests, peaceful.
The Watagan Mountains are located on the western side of Lake Macquarie.
I love our lake and beaches and enjoy meeting new people and sharing yarns. I have lived in the area for about 30 years and used to visit as a child, many happy memories here.
